Shared term
Both are types of Oil Country Tubular Goods, which is the general term for all pipe products used in oil and gas extraction.
Size
Tubing is a smaller diameter pipe inserted inside the larger diameter casing.
Application
Casing is for the well's structure, while tubing is for the fluid's pathway.
Standards
Both are manufactured to specific standards, most notably the American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications, to ensure safety and quality.
Steel Casing pipe standards usually referred to API 5CT, Common Grades in J55/K55, N80, L80, C90, T95, P110 etc. Common length in R3 which nominal at 40 ft / 12 meters. Casing pipe ends connection types are usually in BTC and LTC, STC. And premium connections are also required in large quantities in an oil and gas piping project.
OCTG Pipe Type
Casing
Used to reinforce the well wall, prevent wall collapse, and isolate different formations to ensure drilling safety. It is the basic structure of oil wells and is divided into surface casing, technical casing and oil casing.
Tubing
Used to transport oil and gas from the bottom of the well to the surface. It is usually inside the casing and must have the performance of corrosion resistance and high pressure resistance.
Drill pipe
It is the core tool for drilling wells, and needs to have high strength, abrasion resistance and anti-fatigue performance.
